Houbara bustards
The Houbara
numbers increased last a few years. Houbara bustards are endangered because of poaching,
over-hunting and destruction of their habitat .The Emirates Center for wild
life propagation is taking care of the bird located at Moroccan town of Missour.
15000 birds per season are the future plans of the center in Morocco. Birds
that are used for breeding are being trained to be familiar with humans who are
in regular contact with them. A female lays three eggs for about four days the
eggs 24 days in an incubation facility. Chicks under nine months old are
released each spring and autumn in east or south morocco. No birds are released
in autumn .After one year only 65 percent survive. Scientist monitors the birds
even after they are released .The author explains this point thusly,”The
success of the programme can be measured though their density in the wild” (Todorova,
V 2011).
